selected works 2018 - 2024
Screen printing opens up a vast world of possibilities, where spontaneity and intuition are essential. It starts with creating a stencil, which becomes the template for printing. At this stage, the approach is wide open—whether through painting, drawing, digital techniques, or collage. Even photographs can be adapted with halftone grids.
Looking in
Europe, 2016 - ongoing
A critical look at major European cities and a search for the identity of the individual in the urban space.
Everywhere is a better place
The photo series "Everywhere is a better Place" presents a selection of 35 photographs taken over the course of one year in Lagos, Nigeria. Lagos is known for its vibrant hustle and bustle, cultural diversity and chaotic atmosphere. In the midst of this hustle and bustle, moments of peace and quiet were sought and captured in a way that reduces the distance between photographer and photographed to a minimum. The sometimes poetic imagery creates a connection to places and people, allowing the viewer to immerse themselves in the reality of life in Africa's largest metropolis.
Prayer & Dreams
The American Dream. Once motivation enough for millions of people to settle down in the City of Detroit. Attracted by the promising prospects of the fast growing automobile and metal industry, Motown became the backbone of Americas economy. Nowadays the city is a place full of wasteland, vacancy and mystical decay. One can only guess the glory of the past days. On his 3 months stay in Detroit, photographer Gabriel Goller went on a chase to capture this unique spirit.
Paper & Canvas
Expanding print media by incorporating more painting and drawing opens up new possibilities. This approach blurs the lines between traditional printmaking and fine art, allowing for a richer, more dynamic expression. By integrating these manual techniques, prints gain a unique, one-of-a-kind quality, where each piece reflects the spontaneity and immediacy of the artist’s hand. This fusion of methods not only enhances the visual depth of the work but also pushes the boundaries of what print media can achieve, creating a more fluid and versatile art form.
Blue Faces
Portraits in urban space
The series “Blue Faces“ shows a variety of Portraits, wich emerged from brief encounters in german cities. The work is less about the character of the individual personality, the photographs are rather part of an overall portrait of the urban space and can be looked at as representatives of their inhabitants. The expressions on the faces resemble each other, most of them are linked by a cold, prosaic appearance. The people portrait appear like they have been petrified, they become sculpture. On the one hand the resulting uniformity guarantees protection for the individual, on the other hand it conveys a feeling of distance and anonymity. This feeling of loneliness, that we are all exposed to a certain degree in everyday urban life, is emphasized through a special color scheme realized by silkscreen-printing process.
House Series
Goller's collages are created from a multitude of photographs he collects during his travels. These images are fragments of reality that Goller cuts, deconstructs, and reassembles. His work results in chaotic compositions, held together by an ornamental structure that acts as a connective tissue, unifying the often contradictory elements of the collages and giving them new, cohesive meaning.
Goller uses various media, from Google Street View captures to social media images, exploring the boundaries between reality and digital representation. His work navigates the tension between order and disorder, constantly seeking a unifying element that brings meaning to the chaos.
