Blue Faces 

Portraits in urban space        

The series “Blue Faces“ shows a variety of Portraits, wich emerged from brief encounters in german cities. The work is less about the character of the individual personality, the photographs are rather part of an overall portrait of the urban space and can be looked at as representatives of their inhabitants. The expressions on the faces resemble each other, most of them are linked by a cold, prosaic appearance. The people portrait appear like they have been petrified, they become sculpture. On the one hand the resulting uniformity guarantees protection for the individual, on the other hand it conveys a feeling of distance and anonymity. This feeling of loneliness, that we are all exposed to a certain degree in everyday urban life, is emphasized through a special color scheme realized by silkscreen-printing process.

Portraits im urbanen Raum

Die Serie “Blue Faces“ zeigt Portraits, die während flüchtigen Begegnungen in deutschen Großstädten entstanden sind. Dabei ist die Arbeit weniger darauf ausgerichtet das Wesen der einzelnen Persönlichkeit festzuhalten, vielmehr sind die Bilder Teil eines Gesamtportraits des urbanen Raumes und können als Stellvertreter für dessen Bewohner gesehen werden. Der Ausdruck auf den Gesichtern ähnelt einander, die meisten verbindet eine kühle nüchterne Erscheinung. Die Portraitierten wirken wie versteinert, werden zur Skulptur. Die daraus resultierenden Einheitlichkeit gewährleistet Schutz für den einzelnen, transportiert aber gleichzeitig auch ein Gefühl von Distanz und Anonymität. Das Empfinden von Einsamkeit, dem jeder von uns zu einem gewissen Grad im Großstadtalltag ausgesetzt ist, wird durch die besondere Farbgebung im Siebdruckverfahren, in dem alle Bilder gehalten sind verdeutlicht.
